What is an MCset arc release tunnel and why do we need it?

An MCset switchgear arc tunnel is fitted on the top of the cubicle over the top arc ventilation flaps. It is used when the substation ceiling height is less than 4 meters or short circuit current is more than 25kA. The tunnel is used to release hot arc gasses out of the substation into a safe area.

For more information please see MCset Civil engineering guide on Schneider web page.
