How to Run Application Module Services in Console Mode

Issue:
When trying to start the Application Modules services (ION Application Modules Core Services Host, ION Application Modules Data Services Host, and ION Application Modules Provider Engine Host along with the x64 versions of each) you may run into an error where the service will not start.

Product Line:
Power Monitoring Expert (PME) 2020
Power Monitoring Expert (PME) 2021
Power Monitoring Expert (PME) 2022
Power Monitoring Expert (PME) 2023
Power Monitoring Expert (PME) 2024

Environment:
Windows "Services" Application
Command Prompt

Resolution:

  1. Open up Command Prompt and 'cd' into the folder containing the executable. This path can be found by right-clicking on one of the Application Module services and pressing on Properties. In the case of the Application Modules services, they will be in the path "C:\Program Files (x86)\Schneider Electric\Power Monitoring Expert\Applications\bin".

path to the executable file

  1. After you have used the cd command and are in the ...\Power Monitoring Expert\Applications\bin directory, now you will need to run the service executable followed by '/console /serviceName:[ShortName of the chosen Service]'. The executable name is at the end of the path name within the properties of the service. For these services, the executable will be Framework.ServiceHost.exe. The short name of the service can be found by observing the service in properties where it will be the top name. For the screenshot this will be 'CoreServicesHost'. Therefore, the whole line will be: Framework.ServiceHost.exe /console /serviceName:CoreServicesHost.

actual service name

  1. After this is run there should be an error associated with the service not starting. This will assist with the troubleshooting process as to what is causing the error.
