How to Configure Remote Power Off (RPO) for a Multi‑Unit XW System
Environment
This article applies to:
- Schneider Electric XW Inverter/Chargers
- XW multi‑unit configurations (Master + Slave units)
- Systems requiring Remote Power Off (RPO) integration for safety shutdown
- Includes installations using:
- XW+, XW Pro 6848
- InsightHome / InsightFacility
- Xanbus‑connected devices (MPPTs, AGS, Battery Monitor)
Issue
How do you properly wire and configure the Remote Power Off (RPO) function in a multi‑unit XW system?
Cause
Improper RPO wiring or incomplete configuration may result in:
- RPO not shutting down all inverters
- Only one inverter responding to RPO signal
- Inconsistent state between Master and Slave units
- Safety system failing to de‑energize the entire installation
Resolution
To correctly configure RPO in a multi‑unit XW system:
1. Wiring Requirements
✔ Only the Master XW inverter should be physically wired to the RPO circuit.
This means:
- The RPO dry‑contact input is connected ONLY to the Master unit’s control terminals
- Slave units must NOT be directly wired to the RPO contact
- All units will still respond to RPO through system‑wide control logic
Why?
The Master inverter handles safety signaling on behalf of the cluster and broadcasts the RPO shutdown state to all Slave inverters through Xanbus.
2. Software Configuration Requirements
✔ RPO setting must be enabled on every inverter in the multi‑unit system.
Even though the physical wiring is on the Master only, the following must be set:
- Go to InsightLocal → Device → Configuration
- Enable RPO Setpoint on:
- Master
- All Slave units
Important:
If RPO is not enabled on Slave units, they will not shut down, even if the Master receives an RPO trigger.
3. Expected Behavior
When RPO is wired to the Master and RPO is enabled on all units:
- Activating the RPO switch opens the safety circuit
- Master detects the RPO condition
- Master sends shutdown command through Xanbus
- All inverters force to OFF state immediately (AC & DC power output disabled)
- System remains latched off until RPO contact is restored and the system is restarted
