How to Restore an ION Database Backup onto Another Machine

Restoring a backup

Cause
User may have need to access ION Database backups on another machine.

Resolution

Note: This procedure will overwrite an active database with a backup; you will need to have performed at least one backup. It is recommended that you create a backup of the current database prior to performing these steps.

Using SQL Server 2012:
  1. From the backup machine, copy the .BAK file from \config\cfg\DBBackups\Data\ to the new machine.
  2. Open SQL Server Management Studio
  3. Right-Click the Databases folder > Restore Database
  4. In the Restore Database window select Device and click the right-hand box labeled "..." to select the desired backup instance

  1. Click "Add" and navigate to the location of the .bak file, and then select 'OK'.

  1. The Restore Database window should then be populated similar to the image below.
  2. Select 'OK' to restore the backup.

Using PME 7.2.x or PME 8.0
Databases can also be restored using the Database Manager located in Management Console.
  1. From the backup machine, copy the .BAK file from \config\cfg\DBBackups\Data\ to the new machine.
  2. Open Management Console > Tools > Database Manager
  3. Right-click on "Databases"
  4. Select "Restore..."

  1. In the Restore Database window, select that desired backup instance.
  2. Verify that the "Restored database name" is ION_Data.
Note: The Database Statistics indicates the number of connections using the selected database. Ensure that the number of connections is 0, and the ION services have been stopped.

  1. Select OK.
