When working with SCADAPack 47xi controllers, there may come a time when a firmware update is needed. It is important to note that 47xi controllers have both RTU firmware and Edge firmware and it is important that the boards use the same version number for them to sync up properly.
Note that it is important to update the Edge firmware before the RTU firmware to help avoid synchronization issues.
Situations may arise where a customer is not using the Edge board on their 47xi and may try to update only the RTU board which could cause the boards to desync. As seen below, the Status page shows a SP474i but RemoteConnect is unable to bring back the Edge firmware version.
Using a terminal program such as PuTTY, connect to Port 22 for a SSH session
If the Edge board root password has been forgotten, a Factory boot of the device may be required in order to assign a new Edge password with RemoteConnect.
Once logged in to the root account on the Edge board, type 'verinfo'
With the Edge firmware version identified, it is possible to update the RTU firmware version to match. You may need to go into the RemoteConnect Documentation Set to find the release notes to confirm which firmware releases go together.
For example: RTU firmware 9.9.5 corresponds with Edge firmware 3.1.5
Once the RTU firmware and Edge firmware are at the same level, the Edge board should sync with the RTU board and be properly reported on the RemoteConnect Status page
