Upgrades
Q: Where can I find the firmware files for upgrading my meter?
A: Please refer to:

https://www.se.com/ca/en/download/document/ION9000_meter_FW_v004_006_000/

https://www.se.com/ca/en/download/document/ION7400_meter_FW_v004_006_000/

Q: What version of ION Setup should I use to upgrade my meter to v4.6.0?
A: Recommend version of ION Setup is v3.2.25127.01

Q: What is the minimum version of firmware I need to upgrade to v4.6.0?
A: Meter firmware needs to be a minimum of V2.1.0 to be able to upgrade to V4.6.0

Q: Can I downgrade my v4.6.0 meter to a previous version of firmware?
A: Yes, however meter can only be downgraded to V4.5.0 firmware.

Q: Is there a new template with this firmware upgrade?
A: Yes, there is a new template with this firmware. Template files are included with Firmware files. For some meters and feature sets, the default template will make sure of the data recorder changes.

Q: Is nameplate information preserved during upgrade?
A: If using ION Setup to upgrade a meter, the option to save nameplate information is available. If this option is not selected, the nameplate information from the template sent to the meter will be used.

Password complexity
Q: If I change the minimum password length and existing user passwords are shorter, what happens?
A: A lot depends on how the minimum password length was changed. ION Setup wizard will update the complexity at the same time as User passwords. The wizard will give a warning "One or more stored user password does not meet specified password requirements" and prevent the configuration of the meter's passwords. If the minimum length or complexity setting is changed in advanced mode, existing user passwords will still be valid. The settings only apply to new passwords.

Q: Can the minimum password length be changed after password complexity is set?
A: Yes, if user has correct permissions to change security settings and the new value is equal to or greater than the minimum length required by the standard.
IEEE 1686-2013: minimum password length = 6.
NERC CIP-007-5: minimum password length =6.

Q: Can the minimum password length be set to a value greater than 1 while password complexity is "None"?
A: Yes.

Q: Can the maximum password length be changed?
A: No, maximum password length cannot be changed. The value is 16.

Q: Are changes to password complexity logged?
A: Yes, meter's Event Log will record changes to setup registers

DLMS performance
Q: What changes have been made to DLMS performance?
A: Requests for Data recorder logs will respond quicker and take less time to send all data in the request.

Q: Are any configuration changes needed to make use of DLMS performance changes?
A: No.

BACnet
Q: Can the BACnet Option module Device ID be changed from the front panel?
A: No, will require software to change the Device ID setting in the BACnet Option Module.

Q: Does the meter support adding additional the BACnet objects?
A: No the device supports 1 Device object and 64 Analog Input objects.

Q: Can the Object Identifier be change for measurements?
A: No, measurement and Object Identifiers cannot be configured on the meter. Refer to BACnet and ION technology Technical Note (7EN72-0217) for list of measurements

Q: Does the meter support writes through BACnet protocol?
A: No, the meter does not support any write through BACnet protocol

Q: Does the meter support Change of Value (COV)?
A: No, the meter does not support COV

Q: Where can I find information on ION meters and BACnet?
A: Refer to the Technical Note: "BACnet and ION technology" found on se.com

Modbus
Q: What registers were added to meter's Modbus Map?
A: UNIX UTC Time was added to address 1870. The time is 32 bit integer value. the 4 register DATETIME format UTC Time still exists.

Data recorders
Q: What is the maximum number of source inputs a user can connect to a data recorder?
A: Up to 50 source inputs can be linked to a data recorder

Q: Can a data recorder with more than 16 inputs have Insert Outage Records setting be set to yes?
A: Yes, however the number of data recorder modules that can support Insert Outage Records will depend on the meter type and feature set. Refer to ION Reference for more information.

Q: Can a data recorder with more than 16 inputs use pre- and post-trigger records?
A: No. Data recorder module with pre- or post- trigger records greater than 0 can only have 16 or less inputs.

Q: Can recorders in Power Monitoring Expert VIP support more than 16 inputs?
A: No, the change only applied to meters with V4.6.0 firmware or higher

Q: Is there a maximum number of data recorders than can support more than 16 inputs ?
A: Any data recorder can support more than 16 inputs, however other settings such as Insert Outage Record and pre- or post-trigger records can limit if specific data recorder can support more than 16 inputs.

Q: Does the number of records a module support change with more than 16 inputs?
A: Yes. The maximum size of a data recorder is still 10 MB of memory, the number of inputs will determine the size of each record. As the number of inputs goes up, the number of supported records goes down. 50 inputs to a data recorder can have approximately 37700 records with CRC check disabled. A single input to a data recorder can have approximately 317740 records with the CRC check disabled.
