To prepare for configuring your CFT34A coriolis transmitter:
1.Verify how many I/O and what type of I/O your transmitter has. This is done through the three (3) last digits of your CG number. Refer to CFT34A MI 023-192 12/2020 page 29 for instructions on how to interpret this number.
The CG can be obtained from your transmitter’s data label (as it can be seen in picture below), or by entering the transmitter’s menu:
- Hover a finger over theRIGHT arrow key and hold it until the display reads “Release Key Now”
- Press the DOWN arrow key to go to Test. Press the RIGHT arrow key to enter the Test menu.
- Press the DOWN arrow key until Electr. Information is displayed. Press the RIGHT arrow key to enter.
- The C Number will be shown. Use the last 3 digits of the CG number to confirm the I/O present in your transmitter.
As an example, a transmitter with CG43011488 as the one shown below will have one (1) 4 – 20 mA + HART output in terminals C/C-, one (1) pulse output in terminals D/D-, and no optional I/O modules:
2. Confirm what features you will be using, from what is available in your CFT34 device (all the available I/O? internal totalizers? using the concentration option (if purchased)?...)
3. Confirm the operating flow range and flow Engineering Unit (EGU). If you are also going to use the totalizers, pulse output, etc., then you must also have that information ready to enter it into the CFT34A.
4. Confirm what you would like to be shown on the display’s measurement screen.
Once you have all the information required above, configure your transmitter in the following order:
a. The EGU. If this is a new device, the factory default units for flow are m³/s for volume flow and kg/s for mass flow. If you require a different flow EGU or to set the EGU of additional available variables (such as density, mass, etc.), go to C0.0.0 Setup > C6.0.0 Device > C6.5.0 Units and select the desired EGU in the corresponding submenu. Save your changes before continuing with step b.
b. Hart + 4-20 mA output in Terminals C/C- by following the A0.0.0 Quick Setup > A3.0.0 Configuration menu.
c. Display. Go to C0.0.0 Setup > C5.0.0 Display > C5.6.0 1st Meas. Page & > C5.7.0 2nd Meas. Page and specify the number of lines and the measurements to be shown in the 1st and 2nd measurement page of the CFT34A display’s measurement screen. Make sure NOT to select variables / features you don’t plan on using. As an example, if you are not using the internal totalizers of the CFT34A transmitter, select a different variable for Lines 2 and 3 of the Display, or simply select One Line in parameters C5.6.1 & C5.7.1 Function to only display one variable on the measurement screen.
The variables available for each possible line of the display for both 1st and 2nd measurement page are shown in the MI 023-192 12/2020 pages 87 and 88.
d. If using the 4-20mA output located in terminals C/C-, configure C0.0.0 Setup > C4.0.0 HART > C4.1.0 HART to Enable.
e. Configure everything else you will be using from what is available in your transmitter, through the corresponding submenu in C0.0.0 Setup.
f. Turn off the I/O and Totalizers you won’t use.
If there is I/O available in your device that you are not planning on using, turn it off through the Setup menu to prevent the meter from generating alarms related to an open circuit in said I/O terminals. This is also applicable to the totalizers.
To turn off the I/O terminals, go to C0.0.0 Setup > C2.0.0 I/O > C2.1.0 Hardware, enter into each of the terminals you will not be using, and select OFF.
To turn off the Totalizers, go to C0.0.0 Setup > C3.0.0 Totalisers, enter into each Totalizers menu (> C3._.0 Totaliser _)and configure parameter C3._.0 Totaliser Function to OFF.
NOTE:
- Some parameters can only be accessed in EXPERT mode. Section 6.3 of MI 023-192 indicates which ones are those, by marking them with a * symbol. Go to C0.0.0 Setup > C6.0.0 Device > C6.4.0 Special Functions > C6.4.5 Expert Mode to enable the Expert mode, if needed.
- If your transmitter has I/O that you will not be using, make sure that you turn them OFF. Similarly, make sure that you are not displaying in the transmitter’s local indicator variables or functions that you haven’t configured/aren’t using. As an example, if you will not use the totalizers, make sure that you are NOT displaying the totalizer on the screen AND that you turn them OFF. Failure to do so will make the transmitter believe that you have an issue with your I/O/totalizers, and it will display an error on the screen.
- Don’t forget to save at the end. Press the Return key (⏎) repeatedly to go back to Measure mode. At the prompt “Save Configuration?” make sure that YES is selected, and then say yes by pressing the Return key (⏎) again.
