Resolution
The class system for power meters is defined by ANSI C12.1. The main difference between Class 10 and Class 20 meters relates to their maximum current rating and associated test currents.
| Class | Max Current | Meter Type | Test Current (F/L) | Test Current (L/L) | Test Current (50% PF) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | 10 A | Instrument-Rated | 2.5 A | 0.25 A | 2.5 A |
| 20 | 20 A | Instrument-Rated | 2.5 A | 0.25 A | 2.5 A |
- Class 10 meters are designed for a maximum current of 10 A.
- Class 20 meters are designed for a maximum current of 20 A.
- Both classes share the same test currents for Full Load (F/L), Light Load (L/L), and 50% Power Factor conditions.
