Manual Cleanup After Unsuccessful Installation or Uninstallation

Issue

This article describes the manual procedure for removing PowerChute Network Advanced after an unsuccessful installation or uninstallation.

Products

PowerChute Network Advanced Configuration Tool version 1.0

Environment

Windows

Solution

Use this procedure if installation or uninstallation is unsuccessful and leaves a partial PowerChute Network Advanced setup behind:

1. Log in to the computer where PowerChute Network Advanced is installed with a local administrator account.
2. Close the PowerChute Network Advanced user interface and any open installer windows.
3. Open Services and stop the PowerChute service if it is still running.
4. If the service cannot be stopped in Services, open an elevated Command Prompt and run:

sc stop PCNA
sc delete PCNA

Delete Registry Entries (RegEdit)
Open Registry Editor as administrator and remove the following keys if they exist:

1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Schneider Electric\PowerChute Network Advanced
2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\PowerChute Network Advanced
3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PCNA

Important:

  • Delete only the keys listed above.
  • If a key is missing, continue with the next one.

Delete Shortcuts

1. Start Menu shortcut:
- Go to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
- Delete the Schneider Electric folder or the PowerChute Network Advanced shortcut, if present.

2. Desktop shortcuts:
- All users' desktop: C:\Users\Public\Desktop
- Current user desktop: C:\Users\<username>\Desktop
- Delete any PowerChute Network Advanced shortcut files found.

Delete Installation Folder

1. Delete C:\Program Files\Schneider Electric\PowerChute Network Advanced
2. If the C:\Program Files\Schneider Electric folder is empty after that, it can also be deleted.

Final Verification

1. Confirm the PCNA Windows service is no longer present in Services.
2. Confirm the three registry keys listed above are removed.
3. Confirm no PowerChute shortcuts remain in the Start Menu or on the Desktop.
4. Reboot the machine before retrying installation.
