How local industries can tackle persistent downtime, improve efficiency

Nigerian manufacturers spent N1.35 trillion on alternative power in 2025 alone, according to the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, a jump of more than 21%  from the previous year. Energy now eats up between 35 and 40%  of production costs for many local firms, and the World Bank estimates that unreliable electricity costs the country about $29 billion a year, close to 7% of GDP. These are not distant statistics. They describe the daily reality of running a plant, a refinery, or a processing line anywhere in Nigeria today.
