Goals and Symptoms

ION:Setup pops up a error during the initial installation screen (see below) indicating that a file cannot be written to a temp directory.

Facts and Changes

After double clicking on Setup.exe (to install ION:Setup) the MSI install wizard appears. Once the user clicks the Next button a error popup appears as below:

Error reads:

• Can't run 16-bit Windows program
  Cannot find file ...\Local Settings\Temp\pft80.tmp\Setup.exe (or one of it's components). Check to ensure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available.

Causes and Fixes

Check that the login provided has local administrator rights (user has been added to the local administrators group). Next check the folder permissions are set for Full Control permissions in the following location:

C:\Documents and Settings\<User Account>\Local Settings\Temp

NOTE: This folder is a hidden directory, so you may need to change the folder options to 'show hidden files and folders'
(in Windows Explorer) Tools -> Folder Options -> View (tab)

This should allow you to complete the installation process successfully.
