How to share variables between Machine Expert (EME) PLC and Operator Terminal Expert (EOTE) HMI?
Issue: The M241 / M251 / M262 PLC is not communicating with HMIST6 programmed with EcoStruxure Operator Terminal Expert.

Product Line:
SoMachine, EcoStruxure Machine Expert, EcoStruxure Operator Terminal Expert

Resolution:
[Part 1 - SoMachine/Machine Expert: Exporting the Symbols and Symbol XML File]
1) In SoMachine or EcoStruxure Machine Expert, go to the Tools Tree, and add a Symbol Configuration node.

2) Click Build and then select the Symbols you wish to share to your HMI using the checkboxes next to the Symbols.

3) Go to Build -> Generate Code. This will result in the Symbol Configuration export XML file being generated in the same folder that you saved the project, the file with format: <ProjectName>.<NameOfPLC>.Application.xml

[Part 2 – Creating the Driver in EcoStruxure Operator Terminal Expert]
4) In EcoStruxure Operator Terminal Expert, select the Driver Node in Project Explorer -> System Architecture and click the [+Driver] button at the top.

5) Choose the Driver:
Manufacturer: Schneider Electric
Driver: SoMachine Network in EOTE v3.1 (or "MachineExpert" Network in EOTE v3.2+)
Add driver

6) Click on the Equipment row named "SoMachinNetworkEquipment1" or "MachineExpertNetworkEquipment1"

7) In the Properties, enter the NodeName of the PLC as it appears in the Controller Selection screen from SoMachine/Machine Expert. By default it is the Part Number followed by a space, then @ and the MAC address (hexadecimal).
Nodename

NOTE:
*If your M241/M251/M262 has User Management Enabled and you have a password on the PLC, enter them on "Equipment Security". If you have disabled User Management on the PLC you can simply uncheck the “Use Security” checkbox.
*“Encrypted Communication” is only available for M262 with TLS encryption, so leave this checkbox unchecked (it is checked by default in EME 2.0).

[Part 3 – Importing the Symbols]
8) Click on the "Symbol Link" node under Variables.

9) Click the [+Symbol] button and choose Format List -> SoMachine Symbol File.

10) Click the "Import" Button.
Add Symbol

11) Choose the .XML file that was exported from Machine Expert or Somachine.

As a result, the Variables chosen for export from the Symbol Configuration into the XML file will appear in EcoStruxure Operator Terminal Expert which you will be able to assign in your Screen Objects (Data Displays and buttons).

And now you can download the application to the HMI to run with your PLC.
