Issue:
Users need to share access to SmartConnect-enabled devices with other team members or service providers.
Product Line:
SmartConnect-enabled Smart-UPS devices
Environment:
All Serial Numbers
Cause:
Need information about Device Sharing feature and its configuration process in the SmartConnect platform.
Resolution:
SmartConnect’s Device Sharing feature allows a device owner to share access with up to five other users, enabling collaborative monitoring and management without transferring ownership.
Key Capabilities:
- Shared users can monitor, configure, and control devices (e.g., firmware upgrades, diagnostics, remote reboot).
- Shared users can apply licenses, download reports, and add devices to notification policies.
- Only the device owner can register or delete a device from the system.
- All user actions are logged in the Event Log for traceability.
How to Share a Device:
- Log in to the SmartConnect Web Portal.
- Go to Device Management.
- Select the device(s) you want to share.
- Click “Share”.
- Enter the email address of the user you want to share with and confirm.
- The recipient will receive an email with a confirmation code and device details.
- The recipient must have or create a SmartConnect account to accept the shared device.
Notes:
- Shared users can only remove the device from their view, not delete it from the system.
- Device sharing is only available for devices on Standard or Advanced plans.
- If a device falls to Basic monitoring, it remains shared but loses advanced features until upgraded again.
- Notifications and remote control features are unavailable on Basic plans.
