PC/104 Card Stacking for SAGE RTU CPU Upgrades

Issue

Users need guidance on the correct stacking order of PC/104 cards when installing or upgrading the CPU in SAGE RTU units.

Product

SAGE RTU Product Line (models using PC/104 architecture, including C3414 CPU upgrades)

Environment

Utility substations or industrial automation systems where SAGE RTUs require CPU upgrades or additional PC/104 expansion modules.

Cause

Incorrect stacking of PC/104 cards can lead to clearance issues, improper connections, or malfunction of optional modules such as Ethernet or GPS.

Resolution

When stacking PC/104 cards:

  • Place the CPU card on top of the stack for standard installations.
  • If installing the C3463 Ethernet 5-Port Switching Hub, it must be placed on top of the CPU card due to clearance restrictions.
  • Other optional cards (e.g., C3461 GPS, C3830 Analog Input, C3831 IRIG-B, C3437 Communication Expansion) should be stacked below the CPU card in any order, except where noted.
  • Ensure all connectors are properly aligned and secured using the provided mounting hardware.
