Smart UPS Modular Ultra Power Module Firmware Update Behavior

Issue:

A newly installed Power Module (SRYL5KPMT) is not immediately available after installation, or appears to be unresponsive while joining the UPS.

Environment:

• SRYL5KPMT
• All Smart UPS Modular Ultra models
• All serial numbers

Resolution:

When a new Power Module (SRYL5KPMT) is installed into a Smart UPS Modular Ultra, the module firmware must match the firmware running on the Intelligence Modules (IMs). As part of the insertion process, the UPS automatically compares the firmware versions and updates the Power Module if necessary.

Important considerations:

• The Power Module firmware is dependent on the firmware version installed on the Intelligence Modules (IMs).
• The update process may involve either a firmware upgrade or downgrade, depending on the firmware versions currently installed on the Power Module and the IMs.
• It can take up to 15 minutes for the firmware synchronization process to complete.
• During this time, the Power Module may not immediately become available for use while the firmware update is in progress.
• Do not remove or reseat the Power Module during the firmware synchronization process, as doing so may interrupt the update.

If more than 15 minutes have passed and the Power Module has not become operational, verify that all Intelligence Modules are functioning normally and check the UPS event logs for any firmware update or Power Module-related alarms. If the issue persists, contact the Customer Care Center for further assistance.
