Issue

Users want to know if Varset and Reactivar low voltage capacitor banks contain hazardous materials and whether they require special handling or disposal at the end of their life cycle.

Product

Varset and Reactivar capacitor banks

Environment

Low voltage capacitor banks – installation, operation, and end-of-life handling

Cause

Concerns may arise due to historical use of hazardous materials in older capacitor technologies or uncertainty regarding environmental and safety certifications.

Resolution

Varset and Reactivar low voltage capacitor banks are certified according to UL810, UL508A, and CSA 22.2 No. 190 standards.

Low voltage capacitor banks manufactured within the last 25 years do not contain hazardous materials. As a result:

  • No special handling is required during operation
  • No special treatment or disposal procedures are required at end of life

For detailed information on capacitor types used across different production periods, refer to the corresponding documentation:

  • M Type: Used from 1995 to 2004
  • Varplus2: Used from 2004 to late 2011
  • VarplusCan: Used from late 2011 to present

These documents provide additional technical details on each capacitor type.
