PlantStruxure PES [V3.1 + SP1]: How to Customize GPL library

Goals and Symptoms

How to customize General Purpose Library(GPL) page templates in PlantStruxurePES.

Facts and Changes

PES V3.1SP1

Causes and Fixes

If user is using PES Native General Purpose Library (GPL), there may be need to customize the page templates provided by the library  based on specific application.
Customization may mean changing appearance like adding customer logos or adding/modifying features or any others.
It is very important to understand that it is not recommended to modify directly the page template from the Native Library (sg2_include project).
If later, user have to migrate to a new version of PES, such methodology will lead to conflict.
The recommended methodology is only to create a new project template. This project template will have its page templates based on GPL Page templates.

Example illustration for correct  methodology for GPL Templates Customization:

I. Step 1: Create New Template Project into Vijeo Citect

1. In Vijeo Citect, create a new project. For  Example: “MyTemplate”.
Import into your Vijeo Citect explorer ,the PES GPL Project Template (SGC_include2.ctz).
The CitectGPL project embeds all genies and pages templates used in PES GPL library.

2. The project template may be exported from the Content Repository in Globals->SGC_Include2.
User, then have to right click and save as.

CD

3. In the  Template, include the SGC_Include2 project. Doing this, user will be able to reuse all genies and symbol coming from the GPL library.

Include Projects

4. The need is to customize the page template behavior coming from GPL, but not modifying the template Menu. In order to avoid conflict between the SGC_include2 project and “MyTemplate” project, user have to remove the menu entries in “MyTemplate”

5. In “MyTemplate” Vijeo Citect Project, Delete all Menu entries: System->Menu Configuration or pagemenu.DBF.
Also Delete all entries from Alarm Servers, Report Servers, Trend Servers, I/O server: Servers-> Alarm Servers, ReportServers, Trend Servers, I/O server.

II. Step 2: Create New Page Template based on the GPL page template

1. Open from SGC_Include2, the Page template  that user  wanted to customize.
Use the page save as capability of Vijeo Citect (File -> SaveAs...) to save the page from SGC_include2 to “MyTemplate” project. The name of the page must be different from the one in SGC_include2 project.

2. Update the page ( Tools->Update Pages).

3. User can now customize his own page. Open it and do any change as per need. In illustrated example, Schneider logo has been added.

4. When it is done, create a backup of this project  (Project->BackUp).

Note: If  there is a need to change some genies from the template page, use again the same methodology: copy the Genie from SGC_include2 with new name, customize it and replace the old one in the new template page.

III. Step 3: Add  Newly Created Vijeo Citect Template Project into PES

1. Select the PES supervision project, right click and select the Include Projects Menu.

SP Project settings

2. Add the Project template in the list of Included Project

IV. Step 4: Replace the Default PES Page Template by Newly created Page Template

1. Before using the new page template ,user have included in his Supervision project, it’s necessary to have at least one genie from GPL library assigned in new Supervision project.

2. In fact, PES will include the GPL SGC_include2 project in the Supervision project only when one genie of the GPL library will be assigned in a page.

3. To replace the templates from a page, user have to edit the page (or refine the Supervision project), right click on the page -> properties -> Appearance tab. User can then change the template by the one coming from his template project.
