How do update the OPC IONServicesConfiguration.xml file without using the Designer VIP OPC export tool? Why does my OPC tags data fail when I paste custom measurements into the IONServicesConfiguration.xml file?
Issue
Some PME users have a large number of custom measurements in their PME Designer VIP. The standard way of exposing these measurements to the OPC server is using the VIP OPC assistant.

Other methods of adding the measurements to the file can be copying and pasting them into the ...\Program Files (x86)\Schneider Electric\Power Monitoring Expert\config\IONServices\IONServicesConfiguration.xml file, however, this can cause an error because the datatype of the measurement is not exposed correctly to the OPC server. This can cause an error/no good data to appear in the OPC client.

Cause
The VIP OPC assistant is used adds a measurement entry into the PME "ION_Network" database table "IAS_MeasurementAddress." When this entry is made, an "ION handle" is auto-generated for the measurement. This entry is required to ensure the measurement is correctly exposed. Pasting the measurements directly into the file can cause the programming to skip this step and cause data errors.

Resolution
To bypass using the VIP OPC assistant, link the measurements to a data recorder module. The data recorder does not require a trigger, but it needs to be linked to a "record" input and its depth should be set to a number greater than 0.
