Power Monitoring Expert v2020: Native Event Notification fails to send email notifications when SMTP authentication is required.

PME 2020 Event Notification fails to send email notifications emails through SMTP server ‘’ using ports 2525 / 80 / 25 / 8025 / 587 and observed below error in the PME event log –

LogClientException: System.Net.Mail.SmtpFailedRecipientException: Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: relay access denied - please authenticate
   at System.Net.Mail.SmtpTransport.SendMail(MailAddress sender, MailAddressCollection recipients, String deliveryNotify, Boolean allowUnicode, SmtpFailedRecipientException& exception)
   at System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient.Send(MailMessage message)
   at Notifications.Core.Delivery.DeliverToEmail.SendEmail(String recipientEmailAddress, String subject, String htmlContent, String textContent)

PME v2020.

PME is using older .NET mail client which is not passing the required Authentication to the SMTP Servers.

*Warning: Take backups of any files prior to modifying/replacing them. Ensure the backups are in a location that will not be overwritten (i.e. the Desktop).
To fix this issue, apply steps mentioned as below -
  • Download the attached '' file and unzip (which contains hotfix files).
  • Close all PME thick applications if they are opened and stop all PME (ION) windows services.
  • Copy the downloaded files to respective folders in PME installed directory like –  ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\Schneider Electric\Power Monitoring Expert\Applications\bin’ and ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\Schneider Electric\Power Monitoring Expert\system\bin’
  • Start the PME services (or reboot machine, which automatically start services during system startup).
Now test the notification using SMTP server ‘’ (using any of the supported ports -2525 / 80 / 25 / 8025 / 587).

Note: This hotfix will be included in next CU release i.e PME 2020 CU2.
