Issue:
The cause of the error: " Attempted IO operation (write) on READ-ONLY "  when logged into Vijeo Designer Webgate

Resolution:
You will get this error either due to the variables are not set for 'read/write' for data sharing. Or you are accessing Webgate without security.
If you do not enable Webgate security, you will only have read only access. Create a Security group and User and the error should go away.
