'STBNIP2212' configured for DHCP reverts back to default IP address after powering up.
Issue
'STBNIP2212' configured for DHCP reverts back to default IP address after powering up.
Product Line
'STBNIP2212'
Environment
Windows 7
Resolution
When the 'STBNIP2212' is configured to get the IP address from a remote DHCP server, it will send out
a discover packet upon powering up. If it is connected to a switch that is also powered up using the same
power supply, there is a possibility that the 'STBNIP2212' will be completely powered up before the
switch is ready. While the switch is powering up, it may or may not be ready to receive and transmit packets.
The remote server will never get the DHCP discover packets if the switch is not ready. The 'STBNIP2212'
will normally send out three DHCP discovers over a short period. After a duration of time, if the
'STBNIP2212' doesn't receive the IP address from the remote server, it will revert to using the default IP
address that is based upon the MAC address.
To resolve the issue, ensure the switch is completely powered up and ready to receive and transmit data
before powering up the 'STB NIP2212'.
