Issue
The customer doesn’t know how to configure an ION meter specific measurement or value by referencing an ION handle (register handle) using ION Setup.
Product Line
ION Setup 3.2
ION meters
PM8000 series meter
Environment
Editing or adding a Display module to show a specific register
Connected to the meter (serial/Ethernet)
Using Advanced ION Setup configuration mode
Cause
ION meters use Display modules to show data on the front panel. Each display item must reference a specific data source using an ION handle by default. The meter display comes with default measurements or values but can be modified if needed using ION Setup Display Modules.
Resolution
- Identify the ION handle that needs to be linked to the Display Modules, so it can be seen in the front display. Like HS Vln avg, … The Modules are seen using ION Setup Advanced Mode.
- Open ION Setup
a. Method 1
Right‑click the meter → Properties → Tools tab → use the drop‑down menu to select Show Advanced ION Setup, then click OK. If prompted for a password, enter the default password “0” (if it has never been changed). All ION Setup Modules will then become visible.

- > Double clicks to open it - > Source 1 - > Edit - > Navigate the Power Meter modules in this case as an example - > Select HS Vln avg - > Select the ION handle needed which will appear under parameter - > then “OK”.

The source is then selected and linked to Source 1. Click “ Send “ to save the configuration to the meter. Once saved, the meter will display data for that ION Handle when available.

Note :
Best practice
- Verify unit scaling: Some registers may require scaling or formatting for proper display.
- Avoid duplicate display lines: Ensure multiple display pages do not reference conflicting handles.
- Document your changes: Note which display items were modified for future maintenance.
- Test on meter: Confirm the value appears correctly on the meter’s physical display.
