SCADA compile error Cannot read from file variables.sqx

After restoring a project, user is unable to compile the project. Error displayed indicates the software is unable to read the file variable.sqx

Environment
Project restored and needs to be compiled
Resolution
*Warning: Take backups of any files prior to modifying them. Ensure the backups are in a location that will not be overwritten (i.e. the Desktop)
1) Navigate to where the project is located
2) Locate the file variable.sqx and rename file or move outside the project folder (i.e. the Desktop)
3) Run the compile again, this will create a new variables.sqx file
4) Verify project is running as expected
