IP 40 is protected against solid objects, but is not watertight, similar to NEMA 1, IP 65 is protected against dust and water jets, similar to NEMA 4.

Protection against contact and penetration of solid bodies

4= protection against solid 0= not protected
6= Dust tight 5= protection against water jets
