Product Restart is a reset of drive micro-controller. This is "equivalent" to a drive physical power OFF/ON. When Product restart is activated, the drive reboots.
This function can be used to reset an error that normally requires a drive power cycle. Instead, you use the product restart assignment function, and the drive will reboot and clear the fault (only if root cause of the error has been corrected).
To program
Set Access Level to Expert - [My Preferences] [Access Level]
Go to
[Complete settings] [Error/Warning handling] [Fault reset]
[Product Restart] rP
[Prod Restart Assign] rPA
But keep in mind that changing Product Restart to YES and using a digital input to trigger a Product Restart are performing the same function:
Product Reboot.
- RP: via parameter in keypad
- RPA: via logical input.
Using Communications
Product Restart Assignment (RPA) is the same function but can only be commanded by logic input. It cannot be commanded via Communications
If you need to do a product restart via communication, the trick is to write to the RP parameter (Logic Address - 7128).
Via communication, you write the RP parameter equal to 1, and the drive will make a product restart.
Address 7128 can NOT be entered in the Ethernet scanner tables in the drive. This parameter is marked as R/WS indicating it can only be written to when the drive is stopped. If it is entered into the scanner table it will force the drive into an nSt (freewheel stop) condition and prevent operation (this is true of any R/WS parameter).
Using SoMove
It is possible to initiate a Reset when connected to the drive with SoMove by selecting Device and then Restart Device.
During the restart process the connection to the drive will be lost.
