Resolution
If an attempt is made to import he Web Designer variables that have been exported to a '.csv, file into Unity, an error will get returned.
The following steps can be used to import variables from a Web Designer application into Unity using the 'Namespace' variables from the Web Designer project.
- Locate the file named 'Namespace.dat' in the Web Designer application project folder.
- Copy the file to a temporary file.
- Open the temporary file with Excel as an XML list.
Arrange the columns into the acceptable format for the Unity variable import function.
- Insert a new column after the 'address' column.
- Copy the contents of the 'type' column into the new column.
- The results is shown below.
- Delete all of the columns except for the ones named columns named 'symbol, address and Column1'.
- Copy and paste the columns into Notepad.
- The results is shown below. This is the format that Unity requires.
- Save the changes.
- Delete all of the rows for any services:
- Delete any extra rows.
The variable listed in the 'symbol' column also has the device name appended to the variable tag name. This needs to modified be either modified to the acceptable format
for the Unity import or it can be deleted.
To delete the device name:
- Delete the text 'plc.'.by using 'Find and Replace'.
Delete the text 'device.'.by using 'Find and Replace'.
To modify the device name:
- Delete the text 'MAIN_'.by using 'Find and Replace'.
- Replace the text 'ETG '.with the test 'ETG_'.
- Replace the text 'ETG3010.'.with the test 'ETG3010_'.
The variable types must be converted to the acceptable variable types for the Unity symbols. (i.e, replacing WORD with INT' type, etc.).
- Replace the text 'WORD'.with the text 'INT'..
Save the changes.
When Excel saves the 'Namespace.dat' as a .txt file, it also saves database the index column an appends it to the variable name. This needs to be deleted.
- Open the text file using Notepad.
- Delete the extra column created by Excel during the save. (this accomplished by deleting the text '0'.by using 'Find and Replace'.
- Save the text file.
- Import the variables into Unity.
Note:
- When you build the Unity application, errors may occur due to overlapping registers assigned to the imported register. If this occurs, the variables will need to be assigned to different register numbers
