How to accuracy test the ION 6200 based on digital outputs?
Product Line
ION6200 Series
Environment
ION6200 Energy Meter – Accuracy Testing Using Digital Outputs
Resolution
Follow this procedure to test the kWh accuracy of the ION 6200:
- Acquire a kWh test set (e.g., Rotek brand).
- Wire the meter according to the test set instructions.
- Power up the ION 6200 (for maximum accuracy, wait until the unit reaches its operating temperature of approximately 41 °C).
- Use Digital Output 1 (DO1), which by default is configured for kWh pulsing at 1.0 Wh per pulse.
- Run the test and compare the DO pulse count to the Wh count on the test set.
- The result should be within the meter’s accuracy specification: ±0.5%.
Important Note:
To ensure precision, the test duration should be at least 1000 seconds (16 minutes and 40 seconds), regardless of the pulse weight (kT value). Longer test periods are recommended for higher accuracy. Ensure the kT value is low enough to generate at least two pulses during the test.
Background Information:
Unlike some other meters (e.g., ION8600) that have a calibration pulse module for near-instant pulse generation, the ION6200 generates pulses after each evaluation of the energy register on its regular 1-second processing cycle. This can introduce up to a 1-second delay, making a longer test period necessary for reliable accuracy verification.
