How Are Energy Values Reported in PM3200 Series Meters: 64-bit or 32-bit?

Issue
Clarification on whether energy values in PM3200 series meters are stored or reported as 64-bit or 32-bit.

Product
PowerLogic™ PM3200 Series Meters.

Environment
Energy monitoring systems requiring accurate and scalable data reporting for integration with software platforms or data acquisition systems.

Cause
Confusion arises because the PM3200 series supports multiple data formats internally, but the communication protocol determines how values are transmitted.

Resolution
According to the PM3200 Series User Manual (DOCA0006EN-07):
•    “Energy values can be reported through communications as signed 64-bit integers. The units are always Wh, VARh, or VAh.” (p. 19)
•    “Most energy values are available in both signed 64-bit integer and as 32-bit floating-point format” (p. 55)

Summary:
•    Over communications, energy values are reported as 64-bit signed integers to ensure precision and prevent overflow during long-term accumulation.
•    Internally, some features (such as Flex logs) may use Float32 for certain records, but this does not affect the standard communication format for energy totals.
