Dashboard functionality breaks after an in-place PME upgrade if Azzo gadgets are installed.

Issue:

After a PME in-place upgrade, the Dashboards web application may stop working when Azzo gadgets are installed.

Environment:

PME Web Applications — Dashboards

Cause:

This issue can occur due to MSI component ownership/reference counting behavior affecting shared Dashboards platform files when upgrading PME with Azzo gadgets installed.

In PME 8.1, certain platform files required by Dashboards and Slideshow may have been placed in the following directories by an MSI package associated with Azzo components (because these files were not always deployed by the PME installer in that version):

  • ...\Power Monitoring Expert\Applications\Dashboards\bin
  • ...\Power Monitoring Expert\Applications\Slideshow\bin

At this stage, Dashboards and Azzo gadgets typically work because the required files exist.

During the upgrade, the installer is expected to deploy/update the platform files in those same locations. However, in some upgrade cases the installer may not refresh the expected files consistently. One observed indicator is ProductInfo.xml still pointing to the previous PME, leaving the Dashboards/Slideshow components in an inconsistent state.

After the upgrade, MSI reference counting can result in the platform files being removed or left mismatched, leading to missing dependencies in Dashboards and Slideshow.
As a result, Dashboards can fail to load or render properly because required files are missing from Dashboards\bin and Slideshow\bin.

Resolution:

Warning
Back up the system (or at minimum, the Dashboards and Slideshow folders) before modifying or replacing files.

  1. Recommended (Azzo package refresh)

    • Uninstall the existing Azzo diagnostics/gadgets package, then install the latest Azzo package compatible with PME.
    • To uninstall the existing Azzo package, re-run the previous installer used to install it and select Remove when prompted.
  2. Manual file recovery (if Dashboards/Slideshow bin files are missing)
Ensure the following files exist in both locations:

    • ...\Power Monitoring Expert\Applications\Dashboards\bin
    • ...\Power Monitoring Expert\Applications\Slideshow\bin

    Required files:

    • Configuration.dat
    • Gadget.Data.dll
    • Internationalization.dll
    • Interop.Internationalization.dll
    • LicenseManager.Logic.dll
    • Licensing.LicenseManager.dll
    • ProductInfo.xml
    • SELMBrick.dll

Copy missing files from a known-good system running the same PME version (8.2) or from the appropriate PME installation source/bin used by your deployment.

Recommendation:

If you are using an older version of

Power Operation, consider upgrading to the latest version for improved protocol support and security. For assistance with integration or upgrades, contact Schneider Electric Technical Support at: pmo-psup@se.com
