PlantStruxure PES: How can we configure dual LAN redundancy for Engineering Client to connect to PES System Server in another machine.
Goals and Symptoms
For Engineering Client in the machine where there are two LAN card available, it is required to configured redundant connection from Engineering Client to System Server so that in case of failure of one LAN connection, it can get connected to System Server with alternate connection.
Facts and Changes
To connect Engineering Client to System Sever on another machine, user need to put IP Address of System Server in Engineering Client Configuration wizard. In Address field it is not possible to put more than one IP Addresses (Comma separated). Using alternate method described in this solution user can achieve Network Redundancy for Engineering Client. These steps are designed for PES V4.3.
Causes and Fixes
There are two methods using them it can be possible to configure Network Redundancy for Engineering Client:
1. User can Bridge both the LAN card in both Server and Engineering Client PC. Then after there will be only one IP Address for both LAN card and this Server IP can be put in Engineering Client configuration wizard to achieve redundancy.
2. Instead of IP Address in Engineering Client Configuration Wizard, user can put Computer Name of System Server. And thus the connection is not dependant on IP Address or LAN card, available connection with any LAN card can be used to connect to System Server. User need keep in mind that using this it is not seemless transfer the connection from one LAN to another LAN. If first LAN card which was used to connect (depends on network priority) get disconnected, any ongoing command (such as Build, Generation, Refine) will be aborted with an error. Next command without Engineering Client Restart will succeed with alternate LAN connection.
