The Critical Byte Order Setting When Integrating SCADAPack x70 with Geo SCADA Expert
Geo SCADA Expert offers flexibility in communicating with SCADAPack controllers through a selection of drivers. The specific driver required is determined by the type of SCADAPack device(s) in use.
When using the Modbus protocol for communication, it is crucial to consider byte ordering for correctly interpreting 32-bit floating-point values. Depending on the chosen Geo SCADA Expert driver, you may need to adjust the byte ordering configuration in the RemoteConnect software to ensure the correct values are displayed.
The necessity of changing the byte order setting is entirely dependent on the specific driver used in Geo SCADA Expert:
- SCADAPack x70 with Advanced Modbus SCADAPACK Direct Driver:
- If you are using a SCADAPack x70 as an outstation and select the Advanced Modbus SCADAPACK Direct outstation driver in Geo SCADA Expert, you must change the byte order in RemoteConnect.
- The RemoteConnect setting needs to be changed from the Default setting of 3412 to 1234.
-
Conversely, if you utilize the more Generic Advanced Modbus driver in Geo SCADA Expert, no change to the byte order in RemoteConnect is typically required.
