Why does EcoStruxure Control Expert v16.2 use the predefined custom path by default ?

1. Issue

Starting from Control Expert v16.2, the predefined custom path is used for operations such as Open, Save and Export, because the “Use defined custom path” option is enabled by default.
This feature, available under Tools → Options → Paths, was introduced to ensure consistency and prevent accidental saves in unintended directories.
In previous versions (16.0 and 15.x), this option was not functioning as intended, and the software always used the last opened path instead.

3. Resolution

To restore the previous behavior (using the last opened path):

  • Go to Tools → Options → Paths.
  • Uncheck “Use defined custom path.”

Keeping the option checked ensures the software always uses the predefined custom path.

2026/02 Update:
This functionality will be disabled by default, and the project path will again be linked to the currently opened projet, as it was in Control Expert v16.0 and earlier.
=> This fix will be included in Control Expert v16.4 (Q3 2026).
