How the BMENOP0300 NTP time synchronization works ?

Issue:

How the BMENOP0300 NTP time synchronization works ?

Product Line:

M580 CPUs, BMENOP0300

Environment:

EcoStruxure Control Expert, Windows 10

Resolution:

The BMENOP0300 IEC61850 communication module does not have an internal clock. It requires synchronization with an external time source, which can be either:

  • An NTP server, or
  • The CPU time.

Time synchronization process:

  1. At PLC startup:
The BMENOP0300 retrieves the time from the CPU and uses it as its local time. This occurs only once during power-up.

  2. If an NTP server is configured in the BMENOP0300 settings:
The module automatically switches to the NTP server for time synchronization.

  3. If no NTP server is configured:
The BMENOP0300 continues to use the CPU time obtained at startup.

Important:
To ensure correct time usage for services such as syslog and generated reports, the following settings must match in both the IEC61850 Configuration Tool and the EcoStruxure Control Expert project:

  • Daylight Saving Time (DST) option
  • Time zone configuration
DST and timezone options
