What is a dataset in SFT850?

Issue
Define what a dataset is in SFT850 and how datasets are used on Sepam devices.

Product Line
Sepam Series 40
Sepam Series 80

Environment
SFT850 IEC 61850 configuration
ICD/CID/SCD files (SCL) for Sepam

Cause
Engineering teams need a clear explanation of the IEC 61850 dataset concept to correctly configure reporting and peer‑to‑peer messaging.

Resolution

  1. A dataset is a defined collection of IEC 61850 data objects/attributes treated as a single unit by IEC 61850 services.
  2. In SFT850 projects, datasets originate from the device’s SCL model (ICD) and are referenced by control blocks.
  3. For reporting, bind the dataset to an appropriate Report Control Block so the selected members are included in event‑driven or buffered/unbuffered reports.
  4. For GOOSE, associate the dataset with the GOOSE control block used to publish the selected status and/or measurement data to subscribing IEDs.
  5. Export the configured CID and load it to the target device according to the standard IEC 61850 configuration workflow for Sepam.

Product status note (Discontinuation and substitute)
Sepam Series 20/40 has reached end of commercialization. For new projects or replacements, use PowerLogic Easergy P3 (EcoFit replacement kits available). For IEC 61850 engineering on modern offers, use CET850 as the IEC 61850 configurator; for settings and commissioning on P3, use eSetup Easergy Pro.
