Power Monitoring Expert - Advanced Security Meters Do Not Show Real Time Data in Diagrams

Issue
In Web Applications, the Diagrams do not display real-time data for some meters. An orange box appears around all of the objects with the popup message "Access Denied". The real-time data is displayed without issue in Vista.

Cause
This occurs when the meter has Advanced Security enabled. Even though the meters username and password have been added in the Management Console, the Web Applications and OPC Server are not able to access the real-time data by default. Unlike Vista, these applications lack the ability to prompt the user for the Advanced Security password.

Resolution
*Warning: This article contains information about editing the registry. Improper changes to the registry can permanently damage the operating system. Always back up the registry before making any changes.*

A registry key can be added that will allow the Web Applications access to the meter security information stored within the PME database.

NOTE: It is important to note that if this Registry key is added, anyone who has access to the Web Application Diagrams or is connecting to PME using the OPC Server, has read access to Advanced Security enabled meters.

1) Open the Windows Registry and navigate to the Power Monitoring Expert key.

NOTE: The path of the key varies depending on the software version and if the Operating System is 32-bit or 64-bit.

2) Create a new DWORD (32bit) Value called IONAPIReadAccess and set the value to a non-zero number (suggested value is 1).
3) Close out of the Registry Editor.
4) Restart both the ION XML Subscription and ION XML Subscription Store services.

Once the services have been restarted, real-time data for Advanced Security meters will be available in the Web Applications provided the Advanced Security username and password have been added in the Management Console.
