What type of XPS safety relays should be used with XCSDM coded magnetic safety switches?

Article available in these languages: Dutch

XPSBAT, XPSUAB, XPSUAF, XPSUAK, XPSUAT, XPSUDN and XPSUS from our current XPSU range may be used for safety applications including Coded Magnetic Switches.

XPSMCM programmable safety relays may also be used.

You can find XPSU and XPSMCM catalogues on our digital web based catalogues, here: digicat.se.com. Click on 'General Catalogue' and then 'PLC, PAC and other controllers', where you'll find the catalogues towards the bottom of the page under 'Safety Controllers and Modules'.

General Information:

Coded Magnetic Switches (CMS) are used to monitor guards and gates and are components in safety related control systems.
They must be installed in accordance with standard EN 1088/ISO 14119 relating to guard locking and interlocking devices.

Which Coded Magnetic Switches to use:

For compliance with this standard, dynamic monitoring of a pair of opposed contacts (1 N/C + 1 N/O) must be practiced. Only XCSDM*5*** products have this contact setup and may be used.

Additional information:

XCSDM*7*** CMSs are not recommended for use in safety applications, since they do not comply with the current standard. These products have been developed to satisfy the obsolete machine market, before standard EN 1088 came into existence.

From our old XPS range of safety relays, only XPSDM may be used for this type of device

Caution: For Coded Magnetic Switches with 3 contacts, the 3rd contact (GY- PK) is a signalling contact which must never be wired onto the safety module.
