Can a 480Vac drive be used to control a 240Vac motor?

Issue:
480Vac Drive compatibility with a 240Vac motor

Product Line:
All drives that range from 400/480Vac

Environment:
All serial numbers for units that range from 400/480Vac

Cause:
Drive voltage range does not match motor nameplate data.

Resolution:
A higher voltage rated drive can be used on a lower voltage rated motor, but it is not recommended because the drive will generate voltage spikes at very high levels which could slowly damage the drive.
If doing so, it is recommended that a sine wave filter be added on the drive output to reduce those voltage spikes.
