How to Restore Backup Database from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012

Issue:
When trying to restore a SQL 2005 database in SQL 2012, the Database Restore will give the following error: “The database was backed up on a sever running version 8.002065. That version is incompatible with this server, which is running version 11.00.3000.”

Product Line:
Power Monitoring Expert v7.2.2

Environment:
SQL Server Management Studio

Cause:
It is not possible to restore a SQL 2005 database directly to SQL 2012.

Resolution:
1) Restore the SQL 2005 database backup on a SQL Server 2008 system.
2) Take a backup of the database from the SQL 2008 system.
3) Restore the SQL 2008 database backup on the SQL 2012 system.
