How to program XB4R/XB5R wireless receivers?
1. What you need to know
Programming a Harmony XB5R or XB4R wireless pushbutton has three stages. First set the receiver in pairing mode by pressing the selection button for three seconds. Then select the output on which you want to pair the push button by pressing on the selection button and validate your choice by pressing on the validation button. Then push three times on the pushbutton for teaching it in the receiver; once done the signal LED lights on green steady for two seconds. A ZBRRA receiver holds up to 32 transmitter IDs across its two outputs, the teaching sequence must be completed within 1 minute 30 seconds, and the output becomes active 4 seconds after teaching ends. Note : the pairing procedure described in the video is still valid with the current version of receivers.
2. What you are actually configuring
The output function decides what the receiver does when it catches a taught transmitter; it is set per output, not per transmitter. The column that matters most in practice is the third one from the right: some function changes silently erase the IDs already taught to that output, which is the single most common reason a working installation stops responding after a change.
- The output function is set per output, not per transmitter.
- Switching an output to or from start/stop erases the IDs already taught to it; monostable ↔ bistable keeps them. This is the most common reason a working installation stops responding after a change.
- Range is about 100 m in free field, about 25 m with the transmitter in an XALD box and the receiver in a metal enclosure, about 40 m with a ZBRA1 relay antenna.
- Current approach is a ZBRT1 transmitter with a standard XB4/XB5 head;
