The observed 50 to 60’C surface temperature on RPM12BD and RPM42BD products is a normal behavior. Laboratory test shows that the RPM12BD, RPM22BD and RPM42BD products’ maximum surface temperature is approximately 57.9’C without load (room temperature = 24’C).
Heat is generated in the magnetic coil when applying the power to the coil. This heat creates a temperature rise in the coil and then dissipates heat into the surrounding ambient. The final coil temperature is reached some time after it is energized.
Heat can occur on the LED light circuitry too.
This product is validated and it is able to function correctly between -40 to 55’C. Operating product at ambient temperature 55’C will not damage the internal coil insulation, bobbin and et cetera. For insulation and plastic materials, the permissible temperature is 155’C.
Second possible root cause is that the coil’s insulation malfunctioned (coil resistance reduce) when subjected to several high voltage fluctuation during operation.
