What is an Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) ?
An ATS or automatic transfer switch connects your standby generator to your home. Ordinarily, electricity runs from the utility to your home's chief electrical panel, where it powers all the circuits. The automatic transfer switches (ATS) act as the brain of your complete electrical system. Once installed, they can automatically shift between the electricity coming from your utility and the generator power.
Transfer switches withstand, and close-on ratings are a role of both current and time. If overcurrent protection mechanisms can clear faults more promptly, transfer switches can confront higher amounts of power before a fault is cleared. Since ATS and ATS equipment lineups are uniquely positioned between power sources and loads, they present an optimal location for measuring electrical performance. Integrating equipment into an ATS or ATS lineup can improve the spatial density of the equipment to reduce the overall amount of required floor space. This frees space for other uses and drives down overhead costs.
How does ATS switch work?An automatic transfer switch can also start up more long-term backup power systems, such as diesel generators (local), to operate electric equipment until utility power is revived. In the data centre, it is essentially important to have uninterrupted power. To realise this goal, the systems in the power path should be adequately maintained and tested. To guarantee reliability in the case of a power outage, data center administrators need to monitor the ATS routinely. ATS units can channel considerable amounts of energy, putting heavy stress on the electrical contacts involved, so regular maintenance is critical.
Transfer switches can be customised to add features and consolidate equipment. Integrating usually separates equipment into a transfer switch or transfer switch lineup decreases the space, time, and cost of rendering backup power to a facility.
