DNP 3.0 protocol cannot be set via front panel or ION Setup.

Issue:

DNP 3.0 protocol cannot be set via front panel or ION Setup.
User cannot set the protocol of any com port to DNP 3.0 via the meter front panel or ION Setup. When the user attempts to change to this protocol on the front panel, the following messages are displayed:
ION8xxx: “NOT AVAILABLE”
ION7xxx: “FAILED TO WRITE REGISTER”
ION Setup: “no DSO assigned for this port”

Cause:

User cannot set the protocol of any com port to DNP 3.0 via the meter front panel or ION Setup. The protocol cannot be set to DNP 3.0 on a com port without first setting it in the DNP Slave Options Module.

Resolution:

Using ION Setup, open the advanced modules list (ctrl-left-click on meter). Open the DNP Slave Options module. Open one of the three available DNP connections and click the Setup Registers tab. Double-click on the CommPort register and set it to the port you wish to use. Click Send.

Now the com port used above can be set to use the DNP 3.0 protocol either on the front panel or via ION Setup (Setup Assistant -> Communications -> Serial Settings -> <port> -> Protocol).
