Issue: Some customers might want to use an adapter, extension cord or similar, to plug their UPS to the AC power.
Product Line: All UPS Back-UPS, Smart-UPS
Environment: All serial numbers
Cause: Some customers might want to use an adapter, extension cord or similar, to plug their UPS to the AC power.
Resolution:
It is NOT recommended to use adapters to plug the UPS.
Reasons why it is not recommended to use adapters, extensions, power strips, or similar devices when connecting the UPS to the AC power:
- Fluctuations in input voltage
- Overload on the UPS
- Amperage limitations
- Missing ground
- Impact on the UPS load due to altered power distribution
- If the adapter is damaged the UPS will react with a problem
Some behaviors commonly observed when adapters are used include: frequent operation in battery mode, site wiring fault (consult FAQ FA158817), overload errors, dropping the load, or unexpected shutdowns.
To ensure safe and efficient UPS operation, it is recommended to connect it directly to a wall outlet, making sure it is properly grounded and meets electrical specifications. This practice minimizes electrical risks and ensures adequate protection of connected equipment. Please follow the installation instructions on the user manual to ensure proper installation of the specific UPS model.
