I/O Server Name Length May Affect Performance When an I/O Server is Shut Down in PowerLogic SCADA v7.20
When shutting down one or several (not all) I/O servers, performance may decrease according to the length of I/O server names. The affect on performance has not been quantified, but could be noticeable.
The cause of the drop in performance is a function which compares a string (in this case, I/O server name) character by character. An I/O server name of "IOServer1" will have 9 comparisons, while a name of "IO1" will have only 3. This difference could have a noticeable affect on performance while one or several I/O servers is being shut down. There is no performance impact while I/O servers are running, so alarms, real-time data, etc. are not affected.
The recommended action is to use I/O server names that are as short as possible.
