The VIP in ION Designer gives the error message 'bad handle detected' when linking modules to an ION meter

Issue

When attempting to link modules to a meter, the error message 'bad handle detected' is displayed in Designer. In the event log, there may be errors such as the following:
Client Subsystem: can not add statement: Ball_Plant_3.MDP_6 does not exist in the NOM database. Creating a new module to link to the meter does not help to fix the problem.

Cause

Devices may not be communicating or their node may be busy. Tree states display the status of all ION nodes, hardware and software. Nodes can be locked by other components requesting information and being stuck in processing.

Resolution

  1. Restart the ION Services
  2. If that does not solve the problem, refresh the tree files. Stop all ION Services, delete the tree file (...ION Enterprise\config\trees or Power Monitoring Expert\config\trees) for the malfunctioning devices, then start the services again.
