Product Line

Vijeo Designer, Magelis HMI

Environment

Resolution

Steps are as follows:

1) From RSLogix5000, you will need to re-save the project file as a .L5K file format. By going to the File menu and select Save As...

RSLogix Save As

2) From the Save As window, create a path and file name of where you want to save the file. Make sure you select .L5K as the file type then select Save

Choose a path to save the L5K file

3) In Vijeo Designer, create the Rockwell Ethernet IP Native driver. In this example, we show the CompactLogix PLC. Please select the Equipment item that matches your physical device.

Add Driver from IO Manager node in Vijeo Designer

Choose a driver - here we choose Allen-Bradley EtherNet/IP for CompactLogix

4) Input the IP address of the PLC that the HMI is communicating with on the Ethernet/IP network:

Assign an IP Address from the Equipment Configuration dialog for the driver in Vijeo Designer

5) Right-click on the Variables node and select Link Variables.

Right-click on Variables node in Vijeo Designer and choose Link Variables

6) From the Link Variables window, locate the path of the .L5K file that you have saved. Select File of Type as Rockwell L5K Files and Equipment name of the EIP driver you have created then click OK.

Locate the .L5K file on your harddrive

7) From the New Variables from Equipment... dialog, select the tags you wish to import into Vijeo Designer. Under the When adding variables: option, select how you want to save the tag names and select add.

Select the Tags you wish to import from the New Variables From Equipment dialog

8) Once the Linking of variables are complete, you will see all of the variables you have imported in the Variable Editor window.

Chosen variables will appear in the Variable Editor screen

Tips:

  • To add more variables from the existing linked variables, right-click on the Variables node and choose "New Variables from Equipment...", this will bring up the tag selection screen.
  • To update the Linked variables to an .L5K file that is newly saved with the same name, right-click on the Variables node and  choose "Update link...", select the row representing the path of .L5K file that is linked and click the "Update" button.
  • To remove an existing Linked .L5K file, right-click on the Variables node, choose "Update Link...", select the row representing the path of the .L5K file that is linked and click the "Remove" button.
    • Delete the original Linked variables folder including it's sub-variables before linking a new .L5K file
