What values should I expect from OID rPDULoadStatusLoad on my Rack PDU 1G?

Issue

Clarification needed on the rPDULoadStatusLoad SNMP OID.

Product Line
  • Rack Power Distribution
    • AP78XX Metered Rack PDUs
    • AP79XX Switched Rack PDUs
Environment
  • All serial numbers
  • rpdu firmware v3.5.8 and higher
  • Utilizing SNMPv1 or SNMPv3 for load status information

Cause

Applicable to AP78XX and AP79XX 1G Rack PDUs only, object Identifier rPDULoadStatusLoad (.1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.12.2.3.1.1.2) has a description: "This OID will return the phase/bank load measured in tenths of Amps". This will have different meaning across different types of rack mount power distribution units.

Resolution

On a single phase, single bank PDU there will only be one instance returned, which is the amp draw through the entire PDU.

Single Phase Multibank PDU
Instance 1: Total Current (Bank 1 + Bank 2)
Instance 2: Total Current on Bank 1
Instance 3: Total Current on Bank 2

On multibank PDU's it will return 3 instances:

Three Phase Multibank PDU
Instance 1: Bank 1
Instance 2: Bank 2
Instance 3: Bank 3

Note: This information pertains to AP78XX or AP79XX Rack PDU's running 3.5.8 firmware or higher. If you are seeing inconsistencies between this knowledge base and your own unit, please upgrade to rpdu v3.5.8 or higher.
