How to modify energy readings on a Powerlogic meter or move the values from one meter to another

Issue

This procedure explains how to move or transfer the energy readings from one meter to another meter. This function is supported only on some PowerLogic meters.

Environment

Readings

Cause

A meter was replaced, a master reset was performed, or a meter was cleared by accident. Any of these cases may require presetting energy readings so billing/continuity are not impacted (new meters typically start at 0 kWh).

Resolution

Perform all steps with appropriate authorization and safety procedures. Do not place references inside this section.

  1. Read and record energy registers from the source meter.

    • CM3/CM4/PM8: read 1700–1727.
    • CM2: read 1601–1628.
Record the values using Table 1 (Recorded → Write‑To map).
  2. Write the full block to the destination meter buffer.

    • Write the entire 28‑register block to 8022–8049 (either one block write or 28 single writes).
    • Values written to 8022–8049 must be integers within −9999…+9999; any out‑of‑range value aborts the process.
    • Buffer 8022–8049 corresponds—in order—to the readings read from 1700–1727 (CM3/CM4/PM8).
    • Note: CM2000 register order differs—use Table 1 mapping when preparing the block.

* Registers are not in sequential order.

3-Commit the buffer to energy registers (destination meter). Write these decimal values:

    • 8020 → 8017
    • 8021 → 8018
    • 8022 → 8019
    • 6209 → 8000

4-Check status in register 8021:

    • 0 = settings completed successfully
    • 81 = Invalid Command Function (confirm 6209 was written to 8000)
    • 82 = Invalid Parameters (confirm 8022–8049 values are within −9999…+9999)

5-Verify by reading the destination meter’s energy registers:

    • 1700–1727 (CM3/CM4/PM8) or 1601–1628 (CM2).
    • Values may increment immediately if the meter has load.

Note:  Modbus client capable of block reads/writes (e.g., Modscan or Schneider Modbus Tester). Modbus Tester can be downloaded from FA180037.
