Issue
A custom measurement was created using the Modbus Device Importer.
However, when navigating to Alarm Configuration, the newly created measurement does not appear in the list of available measurements.

Cause
Alarm Configuration only displays measurements that are defined as part of a device’s Logical Device Type.
MDI-generated measurements are not automatically registered for alarm use and will not appear until they are added to a logical device type or logged at least once.
Resolution
There are three methods to make a custom measurement visible in Alarm Configuration.
Method 1 Recommended
Create a Data Recorder Module in the VIP and link it to an External Pulse Module.
Trigger the external pulse once (for example, through Vista).
This forces PME to create the measurement and populate it under the Custom category.
Do not delete the Data Recorder after creation.
Method 2 Using Standard Digital Input Names
For third‑party devices using MDI, rename the register to match PME’s standard digital input names (e.g., “Digital Input 1”).
The measurement will then appear under Generic I/O as “Input Status 01”.
Method 3 — Create the Measurement in the Logical Device Type Editor
If the Modbus Device Importer (MDI) register name cannot be changed, you must manually create the measurement so PME can display it in Alarm Configuration.
Open the Logical Device Type Editor from the Management Console by navigating to:
Tools → Logical Device → Logical Device Type Editor
Create a new Logical Device Type using any descriptive name (for example, Alarm Inputs).
Open the Measurements tab and select New.
In the Edit Measurement window, enter the Descriptive Name and Engineering Name using the exact MDI register name, matching the register exactly including capitalization and spacing.
Leave Units blank and set Quantity to unknown.
Save the measurement and repeat the process for any additional custom measurements that must appear in Alarm Configuration.
Close and re‑open Alarm Configuration.
Your newly added measurement(s) will now appear under the Custom section.
