Explain the digital input characteristics of PM3255?

Issue

Explain the digital input characteristics of the PM3255 meter.

Product Line

PowerLogic™ PM3255 Series Meter.

Environment

Energy monitoring systems requiring digital input functionality for control, metering, and event-based operations.

Resolution

The PM3255 meter supports 2 digital inputs, designated as DI1 and DI2, with four configurable operating modes:

Digital Input Operating Modes

  1. Normal Input Status

    • Used for simple ON/OFF digital inputs.
    • Can monitor OF (Open Fault) or SD (Switch Disconnected) signals from circuit breakers.
  2. Multi-Tariff Control

    • Tariff control can be managed via communications, internal clock, or 1–2 tariff inputs.
    • Applying specific ON/OFF signal combinations to the inputs allows the meter to register energy under different tariff registers.
  3. Input Metering

    • Used for WAGES (Water, Air, Gas, Electricity, Steam) applications.
    • Configure pulse frequency (pulse/unit) to count pulses and calculate units.
    • Note: Pulse width or stop duration less than 10 ms is invalid for counting.
  4. Energy Reset

    • Resets partial energy, energy by tariff, and energy by phase.
    • Activated by an ON signal lasting more than 10 ms.
